May 25, 2015 – The Aga Khan Park was inaugurated this week in Toronto by Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne, in the presence of His Highness the Aga Khan.

The new public park is intended to be a contemplative, connective space for visitors.

“Civil society is cemented when people of many backgrounds come together in spaces of peace and joy,” said His Highness the Aga Khan in his remarks. “I hope this park will contribute to strengthening Toronto’s already vibrant pluralism.”

Situated along Wynford Drive, the property also encompasses the Ismaili Centre, Toronto and the Aga Khan Museum, which were opened in September 2014. The park in Toronto is the ninth park project to be undertaken by the Aga Khan Development Network.

His Highness the Aga Khan also met with Premier Wynne to sign an agreement of cooperation at the provincial legislature in Toronto.

The agreement between the Ismaili Imamat and the Province of Ontario outlines joint initiatives and areas for cooperation, including leveraging diversity and culture as an economic driver and supporting a pluralistic approach to education.

“In Ontario, we believe that diversity is one of our greatest strengths,” said Premier Wynne. “Having this partnership with the Aga Khan and the Ismaili community is a very important opportunity to… share those values around the world.”
