March 7, 2016 - As a recently graduated economist, Jamie was unsure if he would be able to blend his passion for development with his day job. Then, Jamie spent a year working in Bangladesh through AKFC’s International Youth Fellowship, and quickly discovered that his skills were extremely useful and in high demand. He worked on microfinance and agricultural value chain projects connecting small scale farmers with access to fair markets. Once back in Calgary, he was inspired to find work that would continue to blend his skills and passion. Jamie now works for the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation (CAWST) that works to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene in developing countries. CAWST helps train and educate communities on how to meet their own needs by building the human capacity in their communities.
Jamie’s passion for development doesn’t end there. Jamie is now a volunteer with AKFC’s Speaker Bureau. This team of 25 inspiring volunteers helps spark discussion and learning around global issues across Canada. These global citizens bring their unique experiences working in development to local classrooms, universities, clubs, and workplaces across the country. Their goal is not only to educate people about global development, but also to inspire Canadians to get involved and make a difference. To date, this group has met with more than 2,000 Canadians and they are looking forward to meeting with you. Book your speaker today.
