Help shape Canada’s contribution to global development

June 7, 2016 – Global Affairs Canada has recently launched a review of its international assistance, and as part of this process they are inviting the public to contribute their input. The public consultation will be open until July 31, 2016. This is a unique opportunity to help shape Canada’s global development agenda.

Here are some of the ways that you can participate.

  1. Think about how your own passions and interests align with the review. Global Affairs Canada has broken down many aspects of their review into five key policy issues. If you have a particular passion or interest in one of these issues, you can focus your contribution, or if you want to provide insight that does not fit into one of these categories, there is opportunity to do that too. The five key policy issues are:
    • Health and rights of women and children
    • Clean economic growth and climate change
    • Governance, pluralism, diversity and human rights
    • Peace and security
    • Responding to humanitarian crises and the needs of displaced populations
  2. Read the Discussion Paper prepared by Global Affairs Canada. It describes the current global context and some of the key challenges for international assistance. The Discussion Paper is broken down into the policy issues mentioned above, so you can easily navigate the document based on your interests. You also have the option of joining a live webcast to learn gain more depth on the policy issues.
  3. Get to know the Global Goals. As a part of their commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was adopted by United Nations member states last year, Global Affairs Canada has made explicit their intention to align this review with the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the Global Goals, particularly as they relate to your passions and interests.
  4. Fill out the Consultation Form with your own input and ideas for global development. Like the discussion paper, the form is divided into the five policy issues, with space at the beginning for overview questions. Note that it isn’t necessary to read and respond to all sections, so if you have a particular passion for one of the themes laid out in the discussion paper, you can fill out that section of the form. If you have more general ideas for global development, these can be entered into the ‘Overview Questions’ section of the form.
  5. Contact Global Affairs Canada. If you have other ideas, recommendations, perspectives or resources to share, you have the option of sending an email to Global Affairs Canada ( n [email protected]This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
