Eligibility and Cost



In order to be eligible to participate, you must:

  • Currently teach or work in the field of global education or public engagement in Alberta (either in grades K-12 in the formal education system grades or in a non-formal setting)
  • Demonstrate commitment to apply what you have learned in your class and/or other settings
  • Be prepared to report back on how your work has been impacted by the Institute

Both new and experienced teachers are welcome to apply.


A $120 registration fee is payable upon selection through an online registration page.  

Accommodation costs for teachers from outside of Edmonton will be covered.

If the registration or transportation costs prohibit participation, subsidies may be available upon request.


Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Commitment to teaching global citizenship and/or incorporating principles of global citizenship into the classroom or other learning environments.

  • Commitment to ongoing engagement after the Institute

  • Representation from across Alberta, gender and grade level

Successful applicants will be notified and will receive a link to confirm their registration and to submit their payment.   A waiting list will be created and spots will be filled accordingly. 


For successful applicants from outside of Edmonton, accommodation at the Lister Conference Centre will be covered by the Institute. Please indicate on the application form whether or not you will require accommodation. Once you are accepted to the Institute and have paid the registration fee, a room will be reserved for you at Lister Conference Centre.
